Lynda Robbins

Briefly describe your job.

For all of my adult life, I have been passionately involved in the healing arts and holistic medicine.  I have been a Florida Licensed Massage Therapist for 25 years.  For several years, I specialized in Sports Massage and Injury Treatment.  I also teach massage therapy.  I am a Certified Yoga Teacher and teach gentle Hatha Yoga classes, both group and private classes.

As a Wellness Coach, I utilize a unique vibrational analysis to determine the underlying cause of illness and recommend specific herbal and homeopathic remedies for healing, as well as recommending various lifestyle changes to support people in achieving optimal health and well-being.  I give workshops and seminars titled; THE HIGH ROAD TO WELLNESS.   I teach Vegan, Gluten-Free cooking classes at my home in Boca Raton.

I am also a Certified Canine Massage Practitioner and I enjoy providing Massage Therapy for dogs, as well as teaching Canine Massage Certification courses for the Rocky Mountain School of Animal Acupressure and Massage.  I also provide obedience training for dogs.

I am currently writing a Vegan, Gluten-Free cookbook and a non-fiction book on Health and Wellness.

How long have you been working in this field?

30 plus years.

When and how did you decide to choose this career?

I became interested in the healing arts and holistic medicine when I was 19 years old.  I studied many different modalities with the intention of healing myself and turned my passion for all that I was learning into various and different career paths, which all focus on wellness.  It is a life-long pursuit of knowledge.

What education/training did you obtain to qualify you for your field?

I attended the Kushi Macrobiotic Institute in Boston, Massachusetts in 1981 and became a Certified Macrobiotic Counselor.  In 1989, I attended the Florida School of Massage in Gainesville, FL and received my massage training, certification and state licensure.  I studied with a master healer/herbalist named Hanna Kroeger in Boulder, Colorado for 3 years and was one of two people outside of her family to be sanctioned to teach her work.

Other than these, most of my knowledge has been gained through continuous self-study and personal inquiry.  I have taken many Landmark Education courses over the years, providing me with the opportunity to improve myself by utilizing tools and a profoundly powerful technology for personal transformation that I enjoy sharing with others.

What was your first job in the field?

I managed a small, family-owned Natural Foods store in Massachusetts.  After I became licensed as a massage therapist, I worked as a massage therapist for a Chiropractor.

Describe a typical day on the job?

What I like best about all of the things that I do is that I get to pick and choose and vary what I do each day.  I am completely self-employed now and I enjoy the flexibility of working for myself.

What do you like most about what you do?

Making a difference in people's lives and being a stand for transformation, world peace, and optimal health for every human being on the planet.

What do you like least about your job?

Marketing.

What has been the most rewarding experience so far in your career?

Teaching hundreds of students to become massage therapists and following their successes.

What is the biggest challenge for you in this job?

Marketing.

What are the most important personal and professional skills necessary to succeed in your field?

Maintaining my health, sharing openly and honestly with people, maintaining professional boundaries and ethical behavior, and follow-up.

What could someone do to learn more about this field right now?

Take classes and attend my High Road to Wellness workshops, search the Internet and read books on health and wellness.  Check out Palm Beach State College Massage Therapy program.  It is one of the best programs for learning massage in South Florida, and if you are a Florida resident, it is very reasonably priced.

What advice you would offer to students making a career choice or on work life itself?

Choose to do what you love.  Experience freedom, power, joy, and love.  Commit to living a healthy lifestyle.  Be fully self-expressed.
