Art Studio Owner

TruArtStudios.com

TruArtStudios is an online art gallery that caters to homeowners and business owners.

Briefly describe your job and your business.

I get a photograph of someone or something and transfer it into an art piece using oil paints, giclee prints or by photo to canvas. The way I like to describe our work is: "We turn something meaningful to you into a piece of fine art."

In our studio we do framing and stretching of art pieces. We paint all types of surfaces and transform walls into a peaceful, calm space. This is especially useful in today's real estate market. We have clients who have hired us to create beautiful art in their foyers and entrances which in addition to making their home a unique space, it is intiving to buyers adds value to their home.

In our studios, we have an equestrian section for horse lovers. We can capture your favorite horse and/or rider at their very best and transfer them to canvas. That way, they are always in motion! Our most popular requests are from people who want us to create portraits of their favorite pet, baby or family as well as commemorate a special event.

Our studio features two great artists who, unfortunately, are no longer with us but in our studio, their work lives on: R.S. Goldman was an avid photographer. He captured the sun setting in unique and different ways, as well as taking amazing nature shots. Dennis Anderson was a renowned sculptor, but when he passed on, people discoverd that his hidden talent was painting. Our studios display and sell his never-before-seen artwork.

Our online business features fine art from a wide variety of talented, unique and multi-faceted artists. We carry unique fine art and photography pieces for the home.

How long have you been working in this field?

I have been working in this field for 6 years.

When and how did you decide to choose this career?

I was on the Wendy Williams movie set (played by actress Robin Givens) and took the behind-the-scenes shots for the film. This motivated me to purse my dreams in turning photos into pieces of art.

What was it about your work on the show that motivated you to transform photos to art?
I would capture the artist at work and when I reviewed my shots I saw the potential of turning those photos into art pieces.

What education and training did you obtain to qualify you for your field?

When I moved to Florida from New York, I began working with C.A.T. Studios (Creative Art Technology). I learned how to transform a photo to art by using the Wire Jet TM Technology. After about two years, I learned how to stretch and frame a photo as well as worked with the Canon 8100-12 color printer. I learned and understood how to change a photo into a giclee print.

Is CAT Studios an art school?

C.A.T. Studios is a business that has now relocated to North Carolina.

What was your first job in the field?

My first job was doing wall murals on sides of buildings in downtown West Palm Beach, Florida and in area homes.

At this point were you working on your own or for someone else?

The first four years I was working with other people and these last two years I began working on my own as well as with individual artists.

Describe a typical day on the job.

A typical day is getting all prints and colors together, outlining and transforming the work onto a large piece of canvas.

How long does this process typically take - to transform one piece?

To transform one piece takes at least 15 to 30 days depending on size.

What do you like most about what you do?

What I like most is bringing art to life.

What do you like least about your job?

It is very messy and time consuming, but once the project is finished, it is very satisfying.

What has been the most rewarding experience so far in your career?

The most rewarding experience is completing the project and seeing the reactions of the clients.

I think the impact of our work and art selection is best described by my clients. On my website, Truartstudios.com, you can read their testimonials.

What is the biggest challenge for you in this job?

The most important skills in both are to make sure you listen to what the client is asking for and doing research to make sure you can execute the request of the client.

Begin taking art classes and other courses in college that pertain to art and graphic design.

Tell us about your other careers prior to your current one.

I worked 15 years as a tablet press mechanic in pharmaceuticals at Lederle laboratory in New York. The major project I was involved in was being on the Centrum Team, which assisted in building the machine that is now industry standard on how to bring vitamins to market. I attended the Marshall Institute for 3 years and received an Expert-On-The-Job certification.

Thereafter, I worked 10 years in the entertainment field on the management side. I was able to work with many talented artists such as Alicia Keyes and watching them master their craft which is what led me to pursue my dreams.

Can you tell us what a press mechanic does? Does it relate to the work you do now? Why did you leave this field/job?

Working on the Centrum team and attending the Marshall Institute, I learned a formula on how to perfect my job. They teach you that there are three ways to achieve every single task you do and I put the same formula to what I am doing now.

Why did you decide to transition to the entertainment field?

After working 15 years in pharmaceuticals, I had an opportunity to change my career - one that I could not pass up.

What advice would you offer to students making career choices or on work life itself?

If you want to do something you love, it is never too late. Don't let anyone discourage you from pursuing your dreams.
