Married July 7, 1822 at Parish Church of Aylesford, Kent County England (Source). Apparently at this time Henry Chapman could not write. Ann Bates did sign the marriage certificate herself.
Henry Chapman left Kent in 1833 and took the ship "George Washington" to New York with his destination listed as Canada. Ann Chapman with their children in 1834 traveled between West Farleigh, Kent County England and Upper Canada. They sailed on the Vessel Olympia to New York and then travelled to Upper Canada. Henry Chapman with his family became a residents in the Township of Vaughan, County of York in June of 1834.
Henry Chapman was a resident of Holland Landing from 1845 to the year of his death in 1874. There is a street marked CHAPMAN on this property and it intersects Yonge street. Henry sold a portion of lot 106 to the Northern Railroad. The Rail Road Station for Holland Landing was built on this property. Henry Chapman was the first station agent in 1853.
There is an old brick structure along Chapman Street that appears like it could date from
the time when Henry Chapman was the station agent. It could of been his house, or perhaps
the station itself (it is not far from the tracks). Offspring #3 (Henry) and #5 (Joshua) were brick makers -- perhaps providing a ready source of
bricks for this structure.
