Most ancestor lines extend back to the earliest settlement -- within a few years of the Mayflower's arrival -- of New York, New Jersey, and Massachusets by Europeans.

For each generation you double the number of parents involved - that number is shown in parentheses in the heading of the table below. You can easily see that as you go further back only of tiny fraction of your ancestors that contributed to your DNA are known....
