Question: I’m majoring in music. When I started out, I had dreams of becoming a professional musician, but when I consider the environment including travel, endless rehearsal, constant search for that next gig, I’m just not sure I want to stick with my original plan. What are my alternatives?
Answer:

You are wise to think about all the aspects of the profession before launching into it. I don’t know at what stage you are in school but if you are in your Junior or Senior year, you may have to delay graduation to supplement your coursework with classes that prepare you for another direction. Take a look at this link:http://mustech.net/2009/09/so-what-can-you-do-with-a-music-degree/

Then when you find something interesting sit with your academic advisor and find out what courses you’ll need and even if you need to change your major. It sounds like a lot of work, but it is well worth it to get on the right track.
