I worked as a School Safety Coordinator for a state-level emergency management agency. My responsibilities included: reviewing emergency response plans, conducting safety assessments of school facilities, and training school and public safety officials on issues relating to school safety. Additionally, I served as an Intelligence Officer during activations of the state emergency operations center.

cz:How long have you worked in this field?

I worked in emergency services in some capacity for over 16 years. After doing volunteer search & rescue for 3 years, I worked as a Health & Safety Instructor then School Safety Coordinator, and finally, Safety Officer for a private company. Today, I am a Science Teacher and leader of a First Aid Team.

cz:Briefly describe your job.

I am a registered Dental Hygienist. My duties include performing general dental prophylaxis (cleanings), diagnostic x-rays, fluoride treatments, sealants, root planing and curretage and teaching proper home care techniques.

cz:How long have you been working in this field?

33 years total - 10 1/2 years at my present job.

cz:When and how did you decide to choose this career?

I accidentally fell into this career. I was in my junior year as an education major when I went for my 6 month cleaning. I was questioning my career choice and the hygienist got me interested in Dental Hygiene. She explained that as a hygienist you could pick where and when you worked. There are many hygienists who choose to work in many different countries around the world.

cz:When and how did you decide to choose this career?

I always enjoyed writing, particularly creative writing. I discovered this in high school, but before becoming a professional writer, I was a school library-media specialist and a salesperson.

I work as a college admissions consultant for private hire. Families who aren’t receiving the services that they need from their own high school seek my guidance. I am also used to supplement what the school counselor may be doing. I become an advocate for the student and provide them direction.

I worked in public schools for ten years before going private. I was a tutor, substitute, coach, teacher, recruiter, and college advisor. I worked in both middle and high schools. For the past three years I have been self-employed.

I help people to recognize and experience the great love God has for them, to help them to heal. I help the Church as a whole to remain faithful to Christ. I help to serve the local church community at St. Jude Church to help them to worship God and pray. I minister to the sick and the elderly and work with our young people in our “Lifeteen” group. I also conduct discussion groups on the Catholic Christian faith for the Newman Club, a Catholic youth group on the Florida Atlantic University campus.

I was ordained into the priesthood in July 2006. Before that I was a Brother for five years. I was a diocesan seminarian before this. I studied there for four years. .

Patrece Robinson, BM, MM Assistant Director of Stetson University Career Services Adjunct Faculty of Music Stetson Career Center Director shares how she combined love of music with a career in education Patrece Robinson’s passion for music was impossible to leave behind. As a dedicated musician, she practiced and studied intensely since the age of five. Despite being an accomplished performer, she knew it would be difficult to balance the intensity of 6-hour daily practices with a personal life. She re-focused on the business aspects of the field. After years of building her expertise she took that wisdom on the college campus. Today she is a music professor and also guides students as Stetson’s Assistant Director in the career center.

cz: Briefly describe your job.

As Assistant Director of Stetson University Career Development, my role is quite extensive:

    • I advise university students and alumni on all phases of career development including self-assessment, career planning and preparation, job and internship search strategies, major exploration, and graduate, professional school and summer festival applications.

    • I assist the Stetson University Career Development Director with collecting and evaluating pertinent statistical information regarding new graduates and recent alumni for faculty, staff and administration.

    • I work with local and national employers and organizations developing strong working relationships aimed at cultivating internship and employment opportunities for students and alumni.

    • I provide career-related seminars, workshops and presentations as well as outreach programs to classes and student organizations.

    •  I assist with planning and coordination of career fairs, etiquette dinner, additional programs and events.

I am also an Adjunct Faculty of Music member at Stetson University where I teach Career Skills for upper division music students. I guide undergraduates with respect to graduate programs/applications, summer music festivals, individual research, auditions, and career opportunities. Additionally, I developed and administer an Internship Program for University Music Students, locating internship sites, developing relationships with professional arts organizations and monitor student progress.

cz:How long have you been working in this field?

30 years. I started in this field assisting my uncle fixing up houses for resale. Then I started architectural drafting and design in high school, then during my college period, I worked part-time for some local architecture firms and then after college, I joined a variety of large architecture firms moving from a draftsman to a senior project manager and then to an executive.
